Fire Strategy

What is it?

A fire strategy should not be confused with a fire risk assessment. A fire strategy is a document that reviews all aspects of a building’s fire safety features. Construction, compartmentation, means of escape, occupancy and management arrangements are all examples of aspects that are included. Whereas a fire risk assessment is carried out once a building has been constructed and looks at potential hazards within the building and how to mitigate them.

The fire strategy aims to provide clear and concise information on the fire safety measures, designs and systems installed for life safety purposes only. The strategy follows Approved Document B Volume 2 as a framework for the report. The document also acknowledges the functional requirements of Schedule 1, Part B Fire Safety of the Building Regulations 2010.

When a building is constructed or extended, a package of fire safety information must be assembled according to Regulation 38 of the Building Regulations. A fire strategy is commonly used as a means for providing that information. Unfortunately in many circumstances this information is not provided. Many building owners, are now commissioning retrospective strategies to address this lack of information.

We will attend site and perform a detailed survey to fully assess the building and its occupancy. Following this site visit we will provide you with a comprehensive fire strategy report based on the surveyors findings.
