Athlete to Administration Assistant

Categories:

Candice Hall is one of AWB & Son’s newest recruits and has joined our office staff as an administrative assistant, outside of work Candice is a professional athlete representing the City of Sheffield Swim Squad, competing at the highest level including this summers British Swimming Summer Championships. Candice also had success internationally representing the Toronto Titans in the international swim league in 2020 and 2021.

Although the challenges faced in the pool and the office can be very different there are many transferable skills that athletes possess that make them exceptional in the workplace, such as their dedication and determination to be the best at what they do. We sat down with Candice to discuss how she has found the transition from the pool to the office and discuss how she maintains her training schedule and successes in the pool whilst working here at AWB & Son.

How do you feel your time as an elite athlete has helped you take on your new role here at AWB?

Being an elite athlete has helped me develop attributes like good time management , punctuality and commitment which has helped me in my new role.

Congratulations on your recent success at the British Summer Championships, how did you find the right balance between work and your training schedule?

Being organised definitely helps with finding the right balance between work and my training schedule. It also helps that everyone here at AWB are very understanding and supportive of my training commitments.

When can we next expect to see you competing and what are your current goals in your swimming career?

My next competition will not be till next season now so I will take a little break over summer so I’m ready to get back at it in September. My main goal at the moment is to make my first international team and there will be plenty of opportunities next season for that .

And find finally what would you say to someone currently training as an elite athlete who is considering joining the team here at AWB?

The advice I’d give any elite athlete trying to balance work and training is that it can be done as long as you find what works for you, everyone is different but it can be done.

Thank you for reading and thank you to Candice for taking part.
